The Almere Municipality believes that good health insurance is important for everyone. That is why we offer the Gemeentepolis. The Almere Municipality helps to pay for part of your health insurance in collaboration with health insurer VGZ. On this page, you can find out if you apply to this scheme, what you can insure and how much it costs.

  • Assets are not taken into account.

Payment arrears

If you want to be eligible for the Gemeentepolis, you cannot have any payment arrears with your current health insurer.

  • If you are currently insured at VGZ and you have payment arrears, you may be allowed to switch to the Gemeentepolis. Please contact VGZ to discuss this matter.
  • If you are currently insured at a different health insurer than VGZ and you have payment arrears, then you are not eligible for the Gemeentepolis.

What do you want to have insured?

Some costs are covered under basic insurance. For other costs you may have to ask for extra coverage. This is called a supplementary insurance (aanvullende verzekering). The Gemeentepolis always has a basic insurance and a supplementary insurance. You can choose from several packages with the Gemeentepolis. However, you can only receive a contribution with 1 package. Check to see which package best suits your needs. Or for the needs you may think you're going to need. For example, if:

  • You're pregnant
  • You have back issues and want to visit a physical therapist
  • You need glasses

Click on the button below for all compensations in 2025. Complete the Keuzehulp (Selection Guide) and find out which package best suits your personal situation.

Special assistance

In exceptional cases, you can ask for reimbursement for special medical costs through special assistance.
