Upcyclecentrum

The Upcyclecentrum has employers who recycle waste into new products in special workspaces. With upcycling, new products are made from old materials.

From 4 August 2025, the Upcyclecentrum in Almere Haven will be closed for an extended period of time. This decision has been made by the college based on working conditions and the health of the construction staff. Read here for more information on the closure of the Upcyclecentrum.

Employers who upcycle

The Upcyclecentrum has companies in special workspaces who reshape waste into new products. With upcycling, new products are made from old materials.

3 entrepeneurs have a workspace here:

  • ATC Design
Arold from ATC Design makes furniture from reused materials. This way, old materials can have a new purpose.
  • Circuleather B.V.
Femke, Jim and Thijs work at Circuleather. They use the leather from couches and chairs that becomes available from the demontage hall to create new accessories (such as bags).
  • Ralfv
  • Ralph makes design products from items such as old shoes (heels), textiles and wood. These objects are not only pretty but functional.

Experience centre

Above the Upcyclecentrum lies the experience centre (belevingscentrum). Here you can see for yourself what upcycling is, what is needed for it and how one can do it. The area is designed in a circular shape. There are various upcycled goods on display made from materials of Almere. Here you can attend workshops, organise meetings or participate in an educational programme. Would you like to have visit, plan a tour or reserve an area in the experience centre? Then feel free to contact upcyclecentrum@almere.nl.

Built and designed on sustainable and circular principles

The Upcyclecentrum was built and designed with re-used materials. Large amounts of concrete and steel originated from the old vehicle depot and the old recycling centre of the Almere municipality. Tiles, sanitation and large doors came from the old sports centre and swimming pool. The building generates its own energy with solar panels on the roof. There is no gas connection and rainwater is used to flush the toilets and clean the site.
