Do you want to get married or enter into a registered partnership? Then you must first notify us of your intended marriage or registered partnership. Make sure to notify us a minimum of 4 weeks and a maximum of 1 year before the date of the ceremony. For the ceremony, you can choose between comprehensive, simple and free.
In March, April and May 2025 we will run a trial. Adjusted days and times apply for a simple ceremony. We will also begin with a new type of ceremony: the baliehuwelijk (reception wedding).
Simple ceremonies are on:
A reception wedding takes place at the reception of Burgerzaken (Civil Affairs). Only the wedding couple and witnesses will be present. There is no exchanging of rings and it is not possible to take pictures at the reception. The ceremony lasts a maximum of 15 minutes.
Reception weddings are on:
A simple ceremony or reception wedding costs € 279.90.
When filling in the form, have the following details with you:
Send these attachments in the form:
After sending the form, we will check to see if all the details were filled correctly. We will also look if you are allowed to marry one another or if you are allowed to enter a registered partnership together. We will do our best to call you within 4 weeks. During this phone call, we will discuss which date you wish to marry or enter a registered partnership. We will also ask for details and documents if necessary.
Afterwards, we will make an appointment at city hall where you both have to be present. At this appointment, we will check your identity, set the date for the wedding or registered partnership, and you will pay the costs. Make sure to bring a valid proof of identity and a payment card with you for the appointment. During this appointment, you will also receive the approval of the ceremony. If you chose a free ceremony and want no wedding registry or partnership registry, then we will call you and send the confirmation by email.
Were you or your partner born abroad? Then we will need extra documents. The birth certificate of you or your partner who was born abroad, has to be registered in the Basisregistratie Personen (BRP), in English: Personal Records Database.
Are you not sure if your birth certificate is registered? Then you can check for yourself on MijnOverheid by logging in with your DigiD. Under “Persoonlijke Gegevens” (personal details) you can see if your birth certificate or the details of your parents are properly registered.
Are the details of your parents or your birth certificate not registered? Then make an appointment with the municipality that you are registered in so that you can register these details in the BRP. Are you registered in Almere? Then make an appointment by calling 14 036.
Do both of you live abroad and is 1 of you a Dutch national? Then register your marriage or partnership in the Den Haag (the Hague) Municipality.
The Den Haag Municipality will send your details after your notification to the Almere Municipality. We will contact you when we receive your details.
Do both of you live abroad and are none of you Dutch nationals? Then you cannot marry in the Netherlands or enter into a registered partnership.
Then we will need extra documents. Which documents those are depends on the country where you live. Make an appointment by calling 14 036.
There are 3 types of ceremonies that you can choose from: comprehensive, simple or free.
The Trouwzaal (wedding hall) in city hall is available on working days from 9:00 - 22:00 o'clock and in the weekend from 9:00 - 17:00 o'clock. Would you like to marry or enter a partnership outside of these hours? Then make sure to write this down on your notification form. You can also marry or enter a registered partnership in a different location. The costs for a ceremony in the Trouwzaal are equal to a ceremony at a different location. Every Wednesday you can view the Trouwzaal between 17:00 and 17:30 o'clock.
You can also choose for a simple ceremony at city hall. This can take place in the Trouwkamer (wedding room) at Burgerzaken in city hall on working days between 9:00 and 16:00 o'clock.
A free ceremony is possible on Monday morning from 9:00 o'clock or 9:30 o'clock. The waiting time for a free ceremony is currently about 8 months.
You can marry anywhere in Almere. You could marry at restaurants, bars and conference centres. You can also marry at home, in your own backyard. The venue does have to meet certain conditions:
These are the following requirements for marrying at home:
It is possible that you will need to make a request for an event permit for your ceremony outside of city hall. A ceremony outside of city hall costs the same as a comprehensive ceremony.
The ceremony is in Dutch or English. Do you, your partner, or your witnesses not speak these languages? Then we will ask you to arrange for a licensed interpreter at the ceremony.
You can find a licensed interpreter on the website of Raad voor Rechtsbijstand (in Dutch). The wedding cannot go on without an interpreter. Translation by a family member or friend is not permitted.
Ceremonies outside of city hall cost the same as a comprehensive ceremony.
