Neighbourhood budget

The neighbourhood budget (wijkbudget) is a form of financial support for the ideas of our residents. You can apply for the neighbourhood budget online.

The neighbourhood budget supports ideas where residents can create opportunities to better learn each other or do something for one another. Or ideas that improve the environment where people live. It can be big or small, for the street, the whole neighbourhood or even a district of the whole city.

For example:

  • Maintaining the greenery of your own street.
  • Organising a neighbourhood party.
  • Starting a language class.
  • Doing sport events together.
  • Start a volunteer pick-up and drop-off service to take elderly people to community centres, allowing them to join activities, for example.

Foundation or association

Are you part of a foundation or an association (or other legal entity)? If so, you have to meet conditions. The foundation or association may not be a non-profit organisation. You can also only use the neighbourhood budget for activities that are organised from time to time, not always at fixed times or throughout the year.

Are you unsure whether or not you apply for a neighbourhood budget? Then contact the gebiedssecretaris (area secretary) of your district by calling 14 036.

Neighbourhood budget review

The gebiedssecretaris (area secretary) of the district where you live will determine whether or not you can receive the neighbourhood budget.

Ideas with a higher likelihood of acceptance are...

  • Meant for the street or neighbourhood.
  • Going to forge new bonds and maintain contact with the neighbours.
  • Paid with co-financing. This means that the money for the activity cannot come from the neighbourhood budget alone, but that at least 1 other party must co-pay.
  • Meant for operational costs of the residents' association or residents' committee, such as office supplies.
  • Make the neighbourhood more beautiful and/or liveable.

Ideas that stand no chance of success are...

  • Proposed by 1 resident that has little support from other people in the neighbourhood.
  • Meant for daily maintenance.
  • Going to be used for food and drinks only.

Apply

You can apply online. The gebiedssecretaris (area secretary) will contact you and inform you what else is needed. Did you receive the neighbourhood budget? Then make sure to send an account within 3 months after the activity. This is an explanation of what you did, supplemented with documents such as bills (invoices), receipts, pictures of the activity and a short report.

Attachments

  • Copy of your debit card.
  • Budget. This has to be uploaded in the form.
  • You can also add other documents. Try to share as much information as possible.

Questions?

For questions about the neighbourhood budget, contact the gebiedskantoor (area office) closest to your neighbourhood (in Dutch). You can also call 14 036. Ask for the gebiedssecretaris (area secretary) if the gebiedskantoor is near your neighbourhood.
